Some 46 million dollars worth of fuel cannot be properly accounted for by Minister Dharamlall during the examination of Region 2, Pomeroon-Supenaam, budgetary allocation.
APNU+AFC regional representative for Region 2 Member of Parliament (MP) Shurwayne Holder, in a Facebook post, stated that months ago he received credible information from sources employed at the Region 2 RDC about the systematic theft and sale of fuel in the Region by persons closely aligned to the People’s Progressive Party regime. Holder said that he was further informed of attempts by the government to conceal this Illegality by charging the missing fuel to equipment that did not utilize it.
This information was confirmed when the National Assembly was examining the Region 2 Budget, where it was revealed under Program 721 – Line Item 6231 that while $6M was allocated to be spent, the government claimed to spend over $16M. This accounts for over 11,800 gallons of fuel being stolen, he said. Again at Program 722 it was observed that $10M was budgeted for fuel, but almost $30M in fuel was claimed. This would mean that the region utilised more that 31,000 gallons of fuel under this program alone.
No other Region, according to Holder, utilised any amount close to this. When questioned, Minister Nigel Dharamlall allegedly claimed that the fuel was used to pump water off the farm lands during the floods. This contention has since been strongly rejected by Region 2 farmers.
